BEST LETTER WINS A BEAUTIFUL SHEAFFER PEN!
NO CASH FOR COMMENT HERE!! Well, I can't give a pen to any of those wonderful
people who wrote good things about National Newsagent -- I think that is considered
Cash for Comment! So I publicly thank you all anyway and I note (with sadness) that
no one has given me gifts -- no cars, no diamonds, no holidays, not even a pencil...
looks like I will be back next month...
The pen will have to go to Ivy Murphy, she may have some letters to government to
write if she wants to have a say on tobacco retailing.

WHAT ARE THE OTHERS DOING?
I always look forward to National
Newsagent each month to see what other
newsagents are doing and to pick up any
new ideas. I particularly like the shopfitting
articles and looking at other shop layouts
and would like to see more of these.
John Byrne, Southcity Newsagency,
As an owner operator of a
newsagency for over 28 years I have
always believed that it is important to be
informed and objective to increase my
knowledge and subsequently the worth of
As newsagents we are busy, often tired
and buried in our own operations, unaware
of what's happening outside our four walls.
One easy way to overcome this insular
management is to ensure that you read
industry journals like National Newsagent.
For me it was compulsory reading.
It gave me an overview of the goings-on in
the industry. I learned from my colleagues,
found new products (but rather liked the
politics best) and knew what was happening
with suppliers. For me, National Newsagent
was not to be missed. I first read the Letters
to find out what other newsagents were
saying and then took the magazine home to
read from cover to cover.
Thanks NN for keeping me informed for

National Newsagent is fantastic. It
keeps me up to date, in the loop. I enjoy
the letters and product news and like the
editorial which is very good and balanced.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
"I read it, love the letters, the
editorial, the comments -- it is food for
thought." Stuart Taylor, Nogoa News, Qld
RELEVANT AND INFORMATIVE
National Newsagent is the trade
magazine for newsagents big and small,
Australia wide. This achievement has
only been accomplished by making the
publication relevant, informative and ground
breaking for newsagents everywhere.
National Newsagent has covered in
depth every aspect of the industry and
has encouraged debate and discussion
of matters pertaining to our industry.
Every edition is now filled with information
provided by various sources that, together
with the support of all industry partners,
makes for a must-do read every month.
Congratulations to all concerned on
a remarkable achievement and most
importantly Happy 20th Birthday!
Ron Thorpe speaking from the authority
of one who has read every issue and as
Mr Hallmark for well over 20 years.
Reading National Newsagent is
reassuring as we realise we are not the
only ones with the problems which are
highlighted. We have often implemented
tips from other newsagents' stories.
