In 2010 the ANF worked with
Publishers Australia and Touch
Systems to create a workable
model to enable newsagents to sell
A trial commenced in 100
newsagencies in November and
December 2010 and agents who
actively sold the subscriptions reported
The trial proved that customers are
willing to buy magazine subscriptions
at retail stores and enables newsagents
to share in the growing subscription
market. It captures some of the online
sales and puts profits back into the
newsagencies as agents receive a 30%
commission on each sale without any
magazine processing costs.
Newsagents are the last remaining

to offer subscriptions, particularly
as gifts, is a service customers
The single-price Christmas 2010
offer of $39.95 was a good price point
for gift purchases in this trial.
The transaction is a simple one
for newsagents as they process the
purchase through their Touch Network
terminal which issues a receipt with
an activation code which the consumer
or recipient activates directly with the
publishers when he/she is ready to
begin the subscription.
It is anticipated that the trial will be
expanded to more publishers and more
newsagencies in 2011.
