Home' The Channel Magazine : June 2011 Contents RESTRUCTURING IN THE
News Magazines has entered into
a licensing agreement for Express
Publications to publish the majority of
News Magazines’ specialist titles.
The agreement with Express Publications
will include the following magazines and
associated websites: Modern Fishing, Modern
Boating, Overlander 4WD, Truckin’ Life, Live To
Ride, 2Wheels, Chopper, Tattoo and Scooter.
News Magazines’ chief executive officer
Sandra Hook says, our specialist titles
are known for passionately serving their
engaged and loyal readers. We believe that
Express Publications with its extensive
portfolio of niche and specialist magazines
will be an ideal home for these titles.”
As part of the restructure of its specialist
portfolio, News Magazines has also decided
to cease publishing Alpha magazine, with
the last issue on sale in June.
News Magazines will continue to publish
its other specialist titles: Big League and
Australian Golf Digest under licence to the
NRL and Condé Nast respectively.
Deputy Chairman of EMG, David Vella,
said these magazines add to EMG’s already
large range of over 40 regular monthly and
bi-monthly niche magazines:
“ E MG has invested millions of dollars
in developing a multimedia platform
through DVDs, web, events and digital, but
niche magazines in the 5,000 to 50,000
circulation range still form the foundation
of EMG’s overall publishing strategy. EMG
is always looking for opportunities to
expand its range of magazine titles.
“Over the years we have developed titles
which are targeted to interest groups and
passionate hobbyists. We provide readers
with advice, opinion, information and
techniques that are not available on the
web. In many cases we also rally readers
to fight issues; the most recent example
is our being instrumental in the Federal
Government abandoning the proposed
legislation banning bullbars, which would
have had serious consequences for safe
driving in country areas.
“ In the last five years, in line with the
worldwide trend to new media, our larger
titles have become brands which have
magazines, website, newsletters and, in
some cases, DVDs allowing us to better
interact with our reader base creating a
loyal community of like-minded readers.
“Consumers today seek out bargains
and value for money. We provide huge value
packages at retail for our readers. We offer
value for money packs which could include
the current issue of their favourite title, a
second magazine of similar interest and /
or a new DVD.
“ We are experiencing growth in the 4WD,
RV and Lifestyle categories. Similar to all
our niche titles they benefit newsagents in
several ways, not the least being they are
sold at a higher cover price.
“ We strongly believe that there will
be ongoing demand from the targeted
interest groups and hobbyists for our
printed magazines in newsagents for
many years to come.”
CONTROL OVER SUPPLY
Rising costs, cash flow, display space
and control over circulation product –
these are the issues facing newsagents.
Commencing on 4 July 2011, Fortiori
Publishing will be addressing all these
issues with their new Healthy Food
HOW IT WORKS
1. You get 10 different healthy food
cookbook titles – seven x small A5 size
and three x larger A4 size to display for
a six month period with header cards.

during the six month period will be sent

National Sales Manager at Fortiori,
Osie Nigro, said “We all need to change
and now is certainly the right time for
circulation product. We hope this new
