Home' The Channel Magazine : National Newsagent October 2012 Contents ITC compliance
Generally speaking, a majority of newsagents who
provide sales inventory data are becoming compliant.
The latest statistic is an overall pass rate of 90.1% in
This is excellent because it forms a solid base from
which to measure the next important data element, that
of Returns accuracy.
By following the “data loop” from Delivery data to
Sales inventory data to Returns data the distributors and
newsagents can more accurately track and manage their
magazines in the medium to long term. The efficiency
gains from doing this lead to better cash management
and better time management, enabling the newsagent
to spend more time in the shop selling rather than in the
back office shifting paper around after hours.
Main reasons for failure
So, if most agents are passing their ITCs what are the
main reasons an agent might not pass?
The major reason for failing is when an agent sends
data sporadically. That is, when they send data on Monday
and Tuesday, but not Wednesday, and then they send
again on Thursday. This lack of continuity results in a fail
for that period.
The second main reason for failing is not scanning
everything all the time. This results in failure in Integrity
and in Continuity.
The third main reason for failing is when an agent
transfers magazines to subagents or to another branch
without scanning the stock out and then back in again
when it is returned.
And, finally, the fourth main reason for failing is
when an owner does the EOD/EOS in the late afternoon,
then goes away, but the store continues to operate and
sell magazines. In this case the store could fail both
Timeliness and Continuity.
The best thing to do is scan everything all the time,
then do your EOD/EOS after you have sold your last
product. And if you aren’t already doing it, use XchangeIT
EDI to do your Returns—it’s faster, easier and more

It a well-known fact that everyone now relies on Google Places for
navigation—after all, it is the most convenient way to find a location or store,
particularly when using a smartphone.
Is your newsagency listed on Google Places? If it isn’t, there is a good
chance you are losing customers, solely because the location of your
newsagency cannot be found easily.
Click here to find out how to list your newsagency on Google Places, in just
six simple steps. It will only take you five minutes to complete! And the best
part is that it will cost you nothing to do—it is 100% free!
How to get your
newsagency on the map
Why ITCs fail
STEP 1: Visit www.google.com/places/, and log in using your Gmail
account. (If you do not have one, visit www.gmail.com to create one—it
will only take 2 minutes!)
STEP 2: You will be directed to the initial page of the process. Change
the country to Australia, enter your newsagency’s phone number, and
click ‘Find business information.’
STEP 3: You will be taken to the page which requests you to fill in
some information regarding your business. Fill in all the fields containing
asterisks, as appropriate.
STEP 4: Scroll down, and fill in information such as hours of
operation, payment details, photos, videos etc. While these fields are not
compulsory to fill in, it is worth spending a few extra minutes to do so, as
it will provide your customers with useful information.
STEP 5: Click Submit.
STEP 6: You will be taken to the final page of the process. Ensure your
postal address is correct, and press Finish.
Congratulations! Your newsagency is now listed on Google Places!
Your listing will be officially validated within two weeks; once you validate
according to the instructions you will receive, via a postcard, a message
from Google Places—so keep an eye out for this in your mail!
